Treatment plant

The “Steinhäule Treatment Plant” on the river Danube treats the wastewater of around 220,000 people and the additional wastewater for a population equivalent of 220,000 (PE) from the catchment area of the administrative union. The population equivalent is a measure of commercial/industrial-related wastewater pollution load to that of humans for measurement purposes. The system is able to handle a total population of 440,000 (PE). Currently, wastewater is treated in four stages and then introduced back into the water cycle.

1. Stage

Large solids are separated from the wastewater

2. and 3. Stage

Biological impurities and organically bound substances are removed and coagulants are added that react with the phosphate and remove it later

4. Stage

Micropulltants, such as medication residues, are removed from the wastewater
